The Velvet Frogs Barbershop Quartet is the 2011 Senior Quartet Champion of the Far Western District of the Barbershop Harmony Society. The quartet members have been croakin’ together for eleven years. The Frogs have competed 5 times at the international level in the senior division, placing as high as 3rd in the world.  This popular group of singers perform the “old songs” in the “old style” reminiscent of the early 1900’s, and have been selected “audience favorite” in the past 4 regional competitions.

Craig Ewing, tenor, joined the Frogs in 2015 and is a three-time Far Western District quartet champion (Musician’s Choice 1988, Rhythm & Rhyme 1993, and Hi-Fidelity 2005).  Hi-Fi are the Harmony Sweepstakes 2007 National A Cappella Champions. Craig has been the musical director of the Orange Empire Chorus in Fullerton, California for 22 years, and has won 4 gold medals singing with the Masters Of Harmony chorus.  He has been a barbershopper for 47 years.  Craig and his very patient and supportive wife, Marie, have four daughters, eight grandchildren, and four “greats”.

David Livingston, Lead, has been singing Barbershop Harmony for 57 years.  David graduated from the University of California in Santa Barbara.  Born and raised in Southern California, he lived in Connecticut for 6 years, and in Switzerland and Germany for another 6 years.  While living in Europe, David even sang with the Zurich Switzerland Barbershop Chorus.  David is retired from Pepperdine University in Malibu, CA.

CJ Sams, Baritone, is a 50 year member of the Barbershop Harmony Society and has lived in Long Beach, CA all his life. CJ sang tenor with Four Points West, Margerry Shardon’s Favorite Barbershop Quartet, and lead with the Stage Hogs and has won 3 international chorus champion medals with the Masters Of Harmony chorus.  A retired computer programmer, CJ plays cornet and tuba in numerous Dixieland bands and is half of a fabulous tuba/banjo duet called CJ & Katie! His wife Marlys joins them on some tunes to form a trio reminiscent of the Boswell Sisters.

Bill Wilson, Bass, is a second generation Barbershop Quartet Singer and a 58 year Society member. He sang in one of our organizations most famous and popular show quartets, Yer Fadders Mustache. Bill twice won Chorus Gold Medals with the World Champion Masters of Harmony.  He and his wife, Sharon, live in Upland, CA and have lots of fun with their beautiful 57 Chevy.
